The English Karate Federation Kyu grade nationals are arguably the biggest event on the calendar for any aspiring athlete that has not yet reached the accolade of Dan grade (black belt). Open to all students up to 1st kyu, (brown belt) Shoujin entered a team of 18 athletes, 10 of which were new to National competition. You can measure success by medal hauls of course. On this occasion over the two day comp. The team brought home two golds. Both Gorelcenka brothers winning gold in kata. Eimantas Puzneckis brought home silver in kumite, Narrowly missing out on hols by a single point. And ten bronze medals in both disciplines from Mantas Gorelcenka, JJ Francis, Arminas Juras, Taumantas Kantaravicius, Georgia Treguer, Oana Dinca, and Vidmantas Smigelskis. A fantastic achievement. I however measure this achievement by the sheer effort and enthusiasm of this team. We saw some great performances, especially from the under 9 year team. It was a thoroughly great weekend. We feel enormously proud of everyone. We are looking forward to seeing this team progress.
