Sunday 23rd July saw two Shoujin athletes compete as part of the South East Regional kumite inter Regional competition in Leicester.. This competition is new to the English Karate Federation calendar, but will become a permanent fixture with athletes putting themselves forward to be selected and form part of a team. Basher Gorelcenka fought in the 10-11 year boys team, coming 3rd to Midlands and Northern teams but ahead of the South West team. Domantas Stankus competed in the make 16-17 year team coming 2nd in their pool. The competition has potential, but needs more public support to get the atmosphere it deserves. For yonger competitors its difficult to be coached by a coach your not so used to training with, but that's a skill that develops with age. Unfortunately JJ Francis was unale to compete due to injury. Lets hope we have more Shoujin talent selected to represent next year, Overall Souther east finished 3rd with Midlands taking a well deserved regional title. Until next year.......
