Shoujin triumph at EKF Nationals in Leicester

The English Karate Federation ( EKF) hosted this years Nationals at a new venue, Leicester Arena.. The competition was well organised and enjoyable s a spectator, with café, and comfortable seating with good views, (I can vouch!)

The competition was for all EKF licence holders grade 3rd Kyu or above. Shoujin took just three athletes for this high level event, which showcases the cream of the crop in English Karate talent, including the likes of Jordan Thomas, current world champions and most of the junior and senior national team. The first of the three to medal was DSK's Danielius Pavilonis, just losing out in the semi final but securing bronze through reparcharge. then came NSKs James (JJ) Francis , who trains regularly at DSK and is coached by sensei Tony Solley, who gave a sterling performance to become the 2017 National champion for Male Cadet +70 kg Kumite. On Sunday was the turn of DSKs Domantas Stankus who made a breezy job of making it to the final of the Junior Male -61 kg Kumite group. The final was live streamed and Domantas did not disappoint, showing us an impressive ippon mawashi geri in the process! Taking the gold and the championship. Needless to say we are immensely proud of all three athletes, and hope that the rest of the club will be inspired by what these three have achieved. Well done
